INDIAN PLATE

The Indian Plate is a plate covering most of India and is surrounded by the Arabian, Australian and Eurasian plates. This plate was originally joined with Australian to form the Indo-Australian plate, however, has separated within the last 3 million years. The plate now covers a surface area of around 11 900 000 kilometers squared. When this plate drifted north - it created the Indian ocean and converged with the Eurasian plate to create the Himalayan mountains through the process of subduction.
