PHILLIPINE PLATE

The Philippine plate is connected to the Eurasian, Australian and Pacific plate and covers a surface area of approximately 5 500 000 kilometers squared. This plate lies along the side of the Philippines, however, does not cover the majority of the Philippines. It subducts underneath the Eurasian plate to form a lot of volcanic activity around the coastline of the Philippines. In addition, there is a lot of seismic activity around this plate - the 7.2 earthquake in 2013 was a result of the sudden shifts of the Eurasian, Philippine and Sunda plates.
