JUAN DE FUCA PLATE

The Juan de Fuca is the smallest out of the thirteen tectonic plates (with the exception of the microplates). This only has a surface area of approximately 250 000 square kilometers and is known for subducting underneath the North American plate. creating volcanoes and mountains along British Columbia all the way down to parts of California. 

 

Notable Features:

  • Mount St. Helens: A volcano in Washington, US due to the Juan de Fuca subducting underneath the North American plate
